Some say that they fell from the sky. Others that they rose from the ground. Still others say that they were always here, simply waiting for the time when man's suffering spirit called out to them the loudest. However, the chosen know the truth, from the mouth of the Metal God himself. We came to you in fire, he said, when the world threatened to consume itself and was reborn.
We were many, who now are few, so long ago that only Gods remember the names of Gods. Gods warred with each other, and their followers, fearful of the world that the Gods had made, set both Earth and Sky aflame. None but the greatest of the Old Gods, and their children, our Gods, survived the greatest war that our Universe has ever known.
He said that longer ago than he cares to remember, the New Gods awoke to find the world all but barren. He said that they had lived together, three of them: The Metal God, The Hermit God Logan, and the Goddess of Life and Death. It was three days before the Goddess created life. She used the blood of the Hermit God, creating and then sleeping, guarded always by her brother, the Metal God. And so the Gods created our world.
Other Gods arose. One by one, they arose and challenged the powers of the New Gods, seeking to write their names in our histories, and overthrow our creators:
The Dog God, son of the Hermit. His are Hatred and Pain, all the torments of men, and he sought to usurp his father's throne. He was banished to the deserts of the south, where he waits in his hatred:
The Monster God. His are Fury and Vengeance. He battled the Metal God and the Hermit for thirty days and nights until the Goddess bid them all rest, calming the Monster God, and giving unto him the Mountains to the west:
The Unstoppable God of War. Clad in the armors of heaven, he defeated the Hermit, twisting him in the ways that he is twisted today. Once again, the New Gods relied on the words of the Goddess to soothe the God of War. It is said that he sleeps beneath the Earth itself, his rage boiling up to remind man of his wrath:
The Blood God, Ruler of Man's dreams and nightmares. Banished by the Old Gods to roam only through darkness. He came upon the Goddess in sleep, seeking to taint her, but was repelled by her guardian, The Metal God. His are the shadows of the world and the mind:
These are but the gods that rose, he said. The greatest Gods of the world that was. Gods and Monsters, all of us, he said. He says that they were all human once. He, the Metal God, the most human of all, but that it has been eons since he moved in flesh. He does not remember how.
The Metal God. His is the shield that guards the Goddess. His are Valor and Vigilance, everlasting in the face of time:
